Di Resta reprimanded over Italian GP shunt

Force India’s Paul di Resta has been handed a reprimand by the stewards for crashing into the back of Romain Grosjean’s Lotus on the first lap of the Formula 1 Gran Premio d'Italia 2013 at Monza on Sunday afternoon, in a frighteningly similar shunt to Heinz Harald Frentzen in 2000, which resulted in the death of track marshall Paolo Ghislimberti at the same corner. Thankfully, the double tethers on the wheels prevented another catastrophe.

Whilst Grosjean survived the incident to finish the race in eighth place, Di Resta was forced out on the spot with severe damage to his car. While the Scot accepted responsibility for the incident, the stewards recognised the fact that he had tried to take evasive action.

"The driver made an attempt to avoid the collision (when he saw the cars in front braking earlier) by trying to drive between cars #8 and #15, but in doing so collided with car #8," said the official steward’s report.
